Discovery is currently orbiting 143 miles above the Indian Ocean following a picture-perfect launch at 11:38 a.m. EDT. The space shuttle blasted away from launch complex 39-A and raced through partly cloudy skies that obscured the view of SRB staging, but nonetheless, launch was perfect. Neither the minor technical issues or the pessimistic weather forecast were able to delay the start of STS-120.
